Day 1 EDUC 502 Leadership Class

 First Day of School

Here we are, day 4 of preservice for the week, and my classroom is nowhere near done. I have logged into my first graduate class of my Leadership MS degree. Our first class is a great option. It is a technology class for leaders. Who would have thought that leaders are on the cutting edge of technology apps! So this first blog is nothing more than me experimenting with my first blog. I will be linking my twitter account as well. This will be interesting because I don't use twitter either.
So I am 2 hours into my graduate degree and I have learned two NEW things! How to set up my own Blog and my own Twitter.
I hope that my blog is a true reflection of my experiences, both positive and negative. I hope that I can share new articles, new podcasts and new technology that will benefit others that may be on the same path in leadership, or it may benefit those who are curious about the advancements in school leadership.
I will be posting throughout my experiences and hope to keep you entertained.

Third Day in First Grade Talk about a technology FAIL! Today I tried to get 18 6 year olds logged into their Chromebook. I would have preferred herding cats! I started by getting them so excited to log into Prodigy Math, one of my favorite math games for students. I showed them their log-in information (printed on a sticker on the inside of their chromebook) and set up a couple of students at a time. I had the rest of my class coloring in their math sheet, and they seemed to be having fun with that. I got my first two students to my back table and asked them how to unplug their Chromebook from the charging cart and sat them down to have them log-in. Seemed easy enough. Then, I noticed that the one student started typing away letters when he needed to type in the 8-digit student number. The other student couldn't find the number zero, so there were eight letter "O"s in his student number section. I slowly helped them type in their username and password and started to get t...

Technology advances in Elementary levels

I have been learning about so many new technology tools that I can implement in my elementary classroom. I am amazed everyday by the newest programs, apps and websites that are now available in our class. Plickers , Mentimeters , Bookcreator , Canva , Poll Everywhere , Classtag , Classdojo , Jamboard ...the list goes on and on. How do you take the time to choose the right tool? When you want to be innovative and creative to help your student achievement, you can easily be overwhelmed with the options.  One idea is to have a day or a small amount of time weekly to dedicate to PD on new technology tools. Take the time to learn the tool and determine how you might want to implement it in your classroom. Take the time to do this with your team in a collaborative meeting and determine if you want to meet back to discuss the viability of the tool. This is a great way to learn together and see if that tool was worthwhile.  Learn one tool at a time so you don't feel too overwhel...

What about Blogging?

This class gave me or rather, required me to write blogs throughout the semester. Now is the time to reflect about my experiences. Well... I'm not really sure to be honest. I have enjoyed taking the time to reflect on something I read or a podcast I listened to, but to whom? I guess, myself. I am a critical thinker and keep so much in my head. I think that a blog, or diary of sorts, is a great way to keep up with my ideas, sort the thoughts, think deeper and have a spot I can go back and see my reflections. My problem is not unlike others, the time it takes  to write it. Or even if anyone would want to read what I have to say. Probably not at this point in my career, but maybe further down the line.  I'd love to become an expert on something, verses a wonderer of sorts, but only time will tell if that is my destiny. Until then, I guess my blog will be my diary, exposing my inner thoughts to the world.
